A Powerful, Sporty Drive

The Ford Explorer is known for its versatility and power. There’s plenty of get-up-and-go under the hood of this family-friendly SUV.

The standard turbocharged 2.3L 4-cylinder engine powers many of the Explorer trims. It generates 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque and works with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

For more power, there is an available twin-turbocharged 3.3L V6 engine that produces a whopping 400 horsepower. Eco-conscious drivers can enjoy a hybrid powertrain, too, making the Explorer an SUV that has something for everyone.

Rear-wheel drive comes standard. However, if you’re heading off-road or prefer a little more traction, available Intelligent 4WD is right for you.

The Explorer even lets you tow a good deal. When properly equipped, the Explorer has a maximum towing capacity of 5,600 pounds.

Interior Features

The interior of the 2022 Ford Explorer is built for function and comfort. There are three rows of seating, so you can fit the whole gang.

The Explorer has standard tri-zone electronic automatic temperature control to keep everyone comfortable and allow for three different temperatures. Each zone can set its own temperature, and everyone can relax without having to compromise.

Leather-wrapped steering wheel and available leather-trimmed seating offer plenty of style and comfort, too.

An infotainment system is also standard, with an 8-inch touchscreen to start. Smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are standard. You can opt for available in-vehicle navigation while voice control lets you keep your hands on the wheel as you ask for directions.

Safety and Driver-Assist Tech

The Ford Explorer has a lot of safety and driver-assist technology to help keep you, your passengers, and other drivers safe while you’re on the road. Each Explorer trim has standard safety features, like:

• Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking—This system keeps an eye out for a potential frontal collision and warns you if one might happen. It then applies the brakes if you don’t in time.
• BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert —This system keeps an eye on your vehicle’s blind spots and warns you if a car is in them while you’re changing lanes or pulling out of your driveway or a parking spot.
• Lane-Keeping System —This feature helps you stay in your lane. If you unintentionally drift, it steers your vehicle back into the center of your lane.
